Understanding Package Notifications

Summary

Learn the difference between carrier and university notifications and when your package is actually ready for pickup.

Body

Learn the difference between carrier and Mailcenter notifications, when your package is ready for pickup, and what changes during peak periods.

Only the email from mailcent@northcentral.edu means your package is ready. A "delivered" notice from the carrier means it reached campus, not that it's ready for you.

Two kinds of notifications

Carrier notification
Mailcenter email
From
Amazon, UPS, FedEx, USPS, or another carrier
mailcent@northcentral.edu, sent to your NCU email
Means
The package was dropped off on campus
The package is processed and ready for pickup
Includes
Tracking details from the carrier
Your package ID, where to pick it up (locker or office), and the pickup deadline

How long processing takes

Normal times

Packages are generally processed within hours of arriving on campus.

Peak periods

Processing takes longer. Watch your NCU email for any temporary pickup changes.

Peak periods include August move-in, the start of spring semester in January, the weeks before Thanksgiving, and the first week after any break.

Picking up your package

Your email says
What to do
A locker number
Open the locker with your mailbox key any time Miller Hall is open. See Package Locker Access Guide.
Office pickup
Pick it up at the Mailcenter during office hours and bring your NCU ID.
You can't pick it up yourself
Designate a proxy. See Setting Up a Package Proxy.

If you haven't received the Mailcenter email

  • Check your spam and junk folders.
  • Search your NCU email for the tracking number or mailcent@northcentral.edu.
  • Students: make sure you're checking your @mail.northcentral.edu account.

If the carrier shows your package as delivered and you still don't have a Mailcenter email, see What to Do If Your Package Is Missing.
