Summary

Learn how team owners add someone from outside NCU to a Microsoft Teams team as a guest, what guests can see, and how to remove them.

Body

Team owners can add people from outside NCU, like vendors or partners, to a team as guests. Here's how, and what guests can see.

In this article

Add a guest

1

Open the team

In Teams, point to the team name and select More options (…) > Add member.

2

Type their email

Type the guest's full email address and select Add [email] as a guest.

3

Name them

Select the pencil icon to add their name, so people know who they are, then select Add.

The guest gets an email invitation. They sign in with a Microsoft account for that email address, or create one if they don't have one.

What guests can see

  • Standard channels, their posts, and their files
  • Private channels only if they're added to them
  • Not the rest of NCU's Teams, people, or files

You're responsible for your guests

Only add guests to teams without sensitive information. See Using Teams with Sensitive Data. Remove guests when their work with NCU is done.

Remove a guest

Select More options (…) next to the team > Manage team > Members, then select the X next to the guest.
