How To: Find a Missing Email in Quarantine

Summary

Learn how to check Microsoft 365 quarantine for an email that never reached your NCU inbox, and how to release or request release of it.

Body

Learn how to look for an email that never showed up in your inbox. Microsoft 365 holds messages it thinks are spam or dangerous in quarantine.

1

Check Junk first

Look in your Junk Email folder in Outlook. Most missing email is there.

2

Open quarantine

Go to security.microsoft.com/quarantine and sign in with your NCU account.

3

Find the message

Search by sender or subject. Select it to preview it.

4

Release it

If you trust it, select Release. If you only see Request release, select that and IT will review it.

Not sure it's safe? Don't release it

Quarantine catches real phishing. If you weren't expecting the message, leave it and report it. See Phishing — Reporting a Phishing Scam or Suspicious Email.

Microsoft may also email you a quarantine notice listing held messages. You can review them from that email the same way.

Get help

Submit a request through the Microsoft Office 365 E-mail & Calendar service, call the IT Service Desk at 612.343.4170, or visit Miller Hall 226.
