What to Expect When IT Connects to Your Computer Remotely

Summary

Learn how the NCU IT Service Desk connects to your computer to help, what you'll see, and how to tell real IT support from a scam.

Body

Sometimes the IT Service Desk fixes a problem by connecting to your NCU computer remotely. Here's what to expect, and how to tell it's really NCU IT.

How it works

1

You're already working with IT

Remote help only happens when you have an open request or you're on the phone or in Teams with the IT Service Desk.

2

IT asks first

A technician tells you they're about to connect. On NCU computers, IT uses NCU's Microsoft Intune (Windows) and JAMF (Mac) tools.

3

You may need to allow it

If your computer asks you to allow the connection or share a code, do it only while you're talking with the technician.

4

When it's over

The session ends when the technician disconnects. Let them know if you need them to stop at any time.

Real NCU IT will never

Call or pop up out of the blue asking to connect to your computer, ask for your password or MFA code, or ask you to install remote access software from a website. If that happens, hang up and call the IT Service Desk at 612.343.4170.
