Admin Rights on NCU Computers

Summary

NCU doesn't give administrator rights on university computers. Learn why, and how to get the software and changes you need instead.

Body

NCU doesn't give administrator rights on university computers. Here's why, and how to get what you need instead.

Why not

Admin rights let anything you run, including malware from a bad link or download, make changes to the whole computer. Keeping them with IT protects your computer, your files, and NCU's network.

What to do instead

You need to
Do this
Install common software
Open Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac) and install it yourself.
Install something that isn't there
Submit a request through Operating System or Software Support. If it needs to be bought, IT will help with that too.
Change a locked setting
Submit a request, and IT will make the change for you.
