Why Can't I Sign In with My Face, Fingerprint, or a PIN?

Summary

Windows Hello (face, fingerprint, and PIN sign-in) is turned off on NCU computers for security. Here's how to sign in instead.

Body

NCU computers don't let you sign in with your face, fingerprint, or a PIN. These Windows Hello options are turned off on purpose. Sign in with your NCU username and password, and MFA when asked.

Windows Hello is turned off for security

NCU considers Windows Hello a security risk on university computers, and it stores information about you that NCU doesn't want stored on its devices, like scans of your face and fingerprints. Your NCU password and MFA protect your account better.

What this means for you

  • Sign in to your NCU computer with your NCU username and password.
  • You won't see an option to set up face, fingerprint, or PIN sign-in.
  • Your MFA method is how you prove it's you when Microsoft asks.
