How To: Use Loop Components in a Teams Chat

Summary

Send a table, checklist, or list in a Teams chat that everyone in the chat can edit live.

Body

A Loop component is a small piece of shared content, like a checklist, table, or list, that you send in a Teams chat. Everyone in the chat can edit it right in the message, and changes show up for everyone as they happen. It works well for things like meeting agendas, sign-up lists, and shared to-do lists.

Send a Loop component

1

Select Chat and open the chat you want to use.

2

In the message box, select the Loop components icon.

3

Choose the type you want, such as Paragraph, Table, or Checklist.

4

Add your content, then select Send.

Edit and work together

  • Edit: Click anywhere in the component and start typing.
  • Insert things: Type / to add an @mention, a date, or another component.
  • Comment: Type // to leave a comment instead of changing the text. Your name is attached to it.
  • Notify someone: @mention a person inside the component. They get a notification in Activity that links to it.
  • See who is working: Colored cursors and profile pictures in the upper-right corner show who is viewing or editing.

Share it in another chat or channel

1

Select Copy link in the upper-right corner of the component.

2

Go to the other chat or channel.

3

Paste the link in the message box and send it.

People in both places can edit it, and it always shows the latest version. Anyone you share it with can make changes, so think about who should see it before you paste it somewhere else.

Pin it or find it later

  • Pin it: Select More options (…) > Pin to keep the component at the top of the chat.
  • Open it full size: Select the file name at the top of the component to open it in your browser.
  • Where it lives: Loop components save automatically to your OneDrive once you send them.
  • Check access: Select the See who has access icon to see who can view or edit it.

Don’t see the Loop components icon?

Loop components need a OneDrive license. If you just got access to OneDrive, close and reopen Teams. If the icon still isn’t there, contact the IT Service Desk.
