How To: Undo Sending an Email in Outlook

Summary

Turn on Undo send in Outlook so you have a few seconds to stop an email after you select Send.

Body

Undo send gives you a few seconds to stop an email after you select Send, like when you notice a typo or the wrong recipient. You have to turn it on first. It works in the new Outlook on NCU computers and in Outlook on the web.

Undo a message

1

Right after you select Send, look for Undo at the bottom of the window.

2

Select Undo before the countdown ends. The email opens again so you can fix it or delete it.

Missed the countdown?

Once the time runs out, the email is sent. You can try to recall it, but that only works in some cases. See How To: Recall an Email in Outlook. Otherwise, send a quick follow-up with the correction.
