Mirroring Displays for Presentation

Summary

Duplicate – makes all of the displays (monitors and/or projectors/TVs) show the same thing by duplicating the desktop on each monitor.

Body

Overview

Learning spaces and conference rooms typically have their displays mirrored by default.  On some devices, this is also known as Duplicate. This means that what is shown on the monitor will be shown on the projector or TV that is in the room.

From time-to-time, displays may be set to Extend mode.  This makes it so that different things can be seen on either screen.  This is particularly helpful if you want to use a program like PowerPoint in presentation mode--which allows a presenter to present their PowerPoint, while being able to see their private notes on the desktop monitor.

If you do change it to Extend to present, please change it back to mirror/duplicate when you leave.

Windows

  1. Press the Windows Key  + P key.
  2. The display switcher will appear. While holding down, press the P key to cycle through the various options.
  3. Choose the Duplicate option by releasing the P key once it has been highlighted.
