If you are off-campus and need an administrator password, IT may request you to use the Windows Built-In Remote Tool. This will allow us to see and control your computer so that we may enter administrative credentials or systems for you. Unfortunately, Zoom does not allow us to access or interact with administrative properties on the computer. This process requires the user to download a remote assistance file that is password-protected, send the file to North Central's IT department, then provide the password to the file to the technician they are working with.
Accessing Windows Remote Tool
1. Click on the Start Menu or push the Window Key on your keyboard.
2. Search Help.
3. Select Invite someone to connect to your PC and help you, or offer to help.
4. Select Invite someone you trust to help you.
5. Select Save this invitation as a file.
6. Save the file somewhere easily accessible on your computer.
7. You will be presented with a password. Do not close this box.
8. Email the file you saved to the technician assisting you.
9. When they receive the file, they will be prompted for the password. Read the password to them.
- Do not email the password to the technician. Please only communicate the password over voice to the technician assisting you.
10. When the technician attempts to connect to your machine, you will be prompted with a box to approve. Select yes.
The technician will then be able to see your screen, but not yet control it. They will be able to request control if deemed necessary. If they request control, you will be prompted with another box to approve it.
