Learn how to prepare a mailing of 20 or more identical pieces so the Mailcenter can meter and send it.
USPS requires bulk mail to be sorted, faced, and banded. Mailings that aren't prepared correctly are returned to your department for correction, which delays your mailing. The Mailcenter can't do the preparation for you.
Sort
Group all pieces by ZIP code.
Face
Turn every piece the same way: address side up, postage area in the upper right.
Band
Secure each ZIP code group with rubber bands or string.
Sort by ZIP code
Make a separate group for each ZIP code.
Face every piece
Within each group, turn every piece the same direction.
Band each group
Secure each group without bending or damaging the envelopes. You can add a slip with the ZIP code on top.
Submit a request
Submit Bulk Mailing Request with your department account number.
Bring it to the Mailcenter
Drop off your prepared mailing during office hours. The Mailcenter checks it, meters it, and sends it.
For a large or complex mailing, contact the Mailcenter before you start preparing it.
