Summary

Learn how to make Microsoft Teams meetings at NCU easier for everyone to follow, with live captions, transcription, and simple habits.

Body

Learn how to make your Teams meetings easier for everyone to follow, including people who are deaf or hard of hearing, have low vision, or are joining in a second language.

Turn on live captions

During a meeting, select More (…), then Language and speech, then Turn on live captions. Each person can turn captions on for themselves.

Record a transcript

Select More (…), then Record and transcribe, then Start transcription. Let attendees know before you start. The transcript is saved with the meeting.

Habits that help

  • Share slides or documents before the meeting so people can follow along.
  • Say your name before speaking in larger meetings.
  • Describe what's on your screen, not just “as you can see here.”
  • Put links and key points in the meeting chat.
  • Use a headset or a good microphone, and mute when you're not speaking.

Need an interpreter or other accommodation for a meeting? Plan ahead and work with the appropriate NCU office.
