Sending Mass Email at NCU: What's Allowed

Need to email a large group at NCU, like all staff or all students? Learn what NCU's E-mail and Mass Communications policy allows, and who to talk to first.

Before you send: all three must be true

1
It matters to most of the people getting it
2
It's critical or time-sensitive
3
It fits one of the four reasons below

The four reasons

  • A health or safety alert for the campus community
  • Information essential to running the university
  • Changes to university governance, policy, or practice
  • Important information from university senior leadership

Events, reminders, newsletters, and announcements that only matter to some people usually don't meet the bar. Share them in a Teams channel, a department email, or another campus channel instead.

Never allowed

  • Chain letters, or forwarding them
  • Spam: unsolicited messages sent to lots of people
  • Very large messages, or floods of messages, that get in the way of other people's email
  • Commercial or personal-gain messages not sponsored by the university

Talk to Marketing & Communications first

Marketing & Communications manages NCU's communication strategy. Contact them before sending to a large campus audience: 612.343.5005 or communications@northcentral.edu.

Outlook isn't built for bulk email, and NCU accounts have sending limits. See Email Sending Limits at NCU.
