How To: Add a Tab to a Teams Channel or Chat

Tabs sit across the top of a channel or chat, next to Posts or Chat and Shared. Add a tab to keep a file, a Planner board, a OneNote notebook, or a website one click away for everyone there.

Add an app or website tab

1

Go to the channel, group chat, or one-on-one chat.

2

Select Add a tab (+) at the top.

3

Choose the app you want, such as Planner, OneNote, or Website, then select Add.

4

Follow any setup prompts for that app, then select Save.

Add a file as a tab

The file must already be shared in a message in that channel or chat.

1

Select Add a tab (+).

2

Choose the app for that file type, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF.

3

Select the file, then select Save.

Remove a tab

1

Go to the tab.

2

Right-click the tab and select Remove.

The default Posts and Shared tabs can’t be removed.

Who can add or remove tabs

  • Chats: Anyone in a one-on-one or group chat can remove tabs.
  • Channels: Team owners decide whether members can add or remove tabs. If you can’t, ask a team owner.
