Overview
Starting in 2016, Apple included two or more USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 ports. These ports use brand new connectors, and support both data and charging - you can use them interchangeably with peripherals and the AC adapter.
Since USB-C is a brand new spec, users will probably need adapters to connect their existing peripherals. Here are some examples of adapters that will need to be purchased for use with the 2016 MacBook Pro, and which scenarios would require them.
Charging
The 2016 MacBook Pro uses the USB-C connector to charge the laptop, using the included power adapter. All older MacBook Pro power adapters are incompatible with the 2016 MacBook Pro.
To make efficient use of the limited ports on the MacBook Pro, we recommend using an adapter that supports pass-through charging. This allows you to connect the adapter to the computer, then the charger into the adapter. The adapter included with all NCU-purchased MacBook Pros supports pass-through charging. NOTE - will we include an adapter??
Displays
We recommend using the bundled adapter, then convert from HDMI to VGA or DVI. You will need to purchase this adapter separately.
Ethernet Port
ll 2016+ MacBook Pros support Wi-Fi without requiring additional adapters. The adapter bundled with all NCU MacBook Pro purchases also includes an Ethernet port.
Extra USB Ports
For USB 2.0 and 3.0 peripherals (such as keyboards, mice, and external hard drives), we recommend using the adapter included with all NCU-owned 2016+ MacBook Pros.
