VLC Media Player is a very versatile media playback tool, this article is here to get you used to the interface and some of the basic controls of VLC. VLC is installed on most university-owned machines.
Supported File Types
VLC Supports many file types, here is a list of all of the compatible files:
3GP, ASF, AVI, DVR-MS, FLV, Matroska (MKV), MIDI, QuickTime File Format,
MP4, Ogg, OGM,WAV, MPEG-2 (ES, PS, TS, PVA, MP3), AIFF, Rawaudio,
Raw DV, MXF, VOB, RM, DVD-Video, VCD, SVCD, CD Audio, and DVB.
Basic Interactions with VLC
To open a file, go under Media and click open File then select the file you would like to open.
The volume slider can be found in the bottom right corner of the screen and goes from 0-125%.
The media controls can be located in two main places, in the lower left of the screen, or by right-clicking anywhere in the playback area.
