Daily Cybersecurity Checklist for Offices

A short list of everyday habits that keep your NCU account, your office, and university data safe. None of them take more than a few seconds.

Every day

  • ☐ Lock your computer whenever you step away. Press Windows + L (Control + Command + Q on Mac).
  • ☐ Check the sender before you open a link or attachment, especially if the message is urgent or unexpected.
  • ☐ Only approve sign-in requests you started. If an Authenticator prompt shows up out of nowhere, deny it.
  • ☐ Report suspicious email instead of deleting it.
  • ☐ Keep paperwork with personal information out of sight, and lock it up when you leave.

IT will never ask for your password or MFA code, by email, phone, Teams, or in person. Anyone who asks is not IT.

Every week

  • ☐ Restart your computer so updates can finish installing.
  • ☐ Review who you've shared files with in OneDrive and Teams. Share with Specific people instead of everyone at NCU.
  • ☐ Clear your desk of printouts you no longer need, and shred anything with personal information.

Always

  • Never share your NCU account or password, even with a coworker. Account sharing is against the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Keep university data in NCU's Microsoft 365, not personal email or personal cloud storage.
  • Report a lost or stolen device right away, even if you think it will turn up.
