Mersive Solstice for Wireless Display

Introduction

The Solstice system is a method to connect laptops and other mobile devices to classroom projection systems wirelessly. For both Mac and PC, Solstice allows you to easily set up for your class without having to worry about cables or dongles.

Downloading the Solstice Client

The Solstice Client is available for Mac, Windows, and mobile devices. To get the installer:

Windows

  • Turn on the room's main presentation display (projector or TV.)
  • If your device is not already connected, connect your device to NCU-Secure wireless network. 
    • You must be on NCU-Secure to use the Mersive Solstice. Unfortunately, that means that wireless presentation is currently not available to guests.
  • PC/Mac - Open a web browser and go to the IP address (e.g. http://000.00.0.00) listed in the upper-right corner of the Solstice Pod's welcome screen. The page that loads will include a download link for the Solstice client.
  • Mobile devices - Open a web browser on your device and go to the IP listed in the upper-right corner of the Solstice Pod's welcome screen; you will be redirected to the appropriate mobile store to install the Solstice app.

Apple - macOS and iOS

Apple devices can use AirPlay to directly connect to the Solstice Pod.  Alternatively, iOS users can download the Solstice Client and in a similar way to Windows's device.

  • Turn on the room's main presentation display (projector or TV.)
  • If your device is not already connected, connect your device to NCU-Secure wireless network. 
    • You must be on NCU-Secure to use the Mersive Solstice. Unfortunately, that means that wireless presentation is currently not available to guests.​​

Connecting to Solstice Using a Laptop

  1. Launch the Solstice Client.
    • NOTE: The first time that you launch the Solstice app you will be prompted to enter your name. This helps distinguish your content when collaborating with others.

  1. The Solstice Client will automatically detect available Solstice Pods in your area and show them in a list.
  2. Click on the Solstice Pod you want to connect to (You can also search the list for a specific Pod by typing a building name or room into the  field.).
  3. Enter the 4-digit access code listed on the Solstice Pod's welcome screen (these codes change periodically, so you cannot save the code).
    1. If the session is in moderated mode, the moderator will be prompted to approve your connection.

  1. Pick a sharing method. You can share your entire desktop, an open application window, or stream a media file directly from your hard drive.
  2. We also recommend that you select "Settings in the lower left, and then "Automatically Share Audio with Desktop". This will push audio to the in-room speakers when playing video. 

Connecting to Solstice Using a Mobile Device

  1. Once you've installed the Solstice client, tap on it to run it. On first launch, you will be prompted to enter your name. This helps distinguish your content when collaborating with others.
  2. Tap on the Solstice Pod you wish to connect to. If Pods are not listed, enter the IP address listed on your Pod's welcome screen.
  3. Enter the 4-character access code listed on the Solstice Pod's welcome screen.
  4. Pick a sharing method. You can stream live video from your device's camera, display videos or pictures, or mirror the device's screen. For sharing to work correctly, you need to grant access when prompted by your device.
  5. To mirror the screen under iOS, click Mirror Screen. Follow the instructions to enable Airplay on your device and toggle 

Stop Sharing or Disconnect from a Solstice Pod

  • To stop sharing content but remain connected to the Pod, click on the Stop Sharing All button.
  • To completely disconnect from the Solstice Pod, click Disconnect
