Import Calendar Files into Outlook

Overview

Files with .vcs (vCalendar) and .ics (iCalendar) extensions contain information about events or appointments that can be imported into a calendar or scheduling program. They are saved in the vCalendar Electronic Calendaring and Scheduling Exchange format. They include the event date and time and other information about the event.

These files can be imported and exported by several programs, including Microsoft Outlook and Apple Calendar.

Import Calendar Files into Outlook for Windows

This feature applies to Outlook 2016 and Office 365.

1. In Import and Export Wizard box, select Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs).
2. Click Next.
3. Locate and select the extracted file from your PC and click OK.

Import Calendar Files into Outlook for Mac

1. Find the .vcs file on your desktop.
2. Open the calendar view in Outlook 2016.
3. Drag and drop the .vcs file into the calendar body.
4. Events will automatically populate the calendar.

Alternate Method

1. Find the .vcs file on your desktop.
2. Control-click on the file.
3. Select Open With Outlook.
4. Click Save or Close for any windows that may appear regarding a past event or the next scheduled event.
5. The calendar view will now show your imported appointments.
